Migrating a Legacy Application to the Web: the Sinfor Project
Abstract
Various approaches can be used to enable legacy applications to the Web. In
particular, a number of data-intensive legacy applications as traditional
application for business management, can't be simply described and
structured in terms of html pages and links because of their
complexity. In this scenario, new methodologies are devoloped to support
the migration process.
The Ubiquitous Web Applications (UWA) Project is a research project
founded by European Community about conceptual modeling of modern on-line
applications: in this paper we describe the application of UWA in a real
experience about the migration of a legacy data-intensive stand-alone
application for customer's order management. Some of the possible
migrating approachs and strategies are considered and discussed. Both
design and implementation issues are considered in the paper, referring to
a complete prototype we developed.
The results are rather general and can be easily applied to other
migration projects.
